Earlier last month Dunton commenced remedial works for Willmott Dixon to support the development of a prestigious new college located in the UK’s largest city-centre redevelopment scheme. The National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR) located on Birmingham Science Park will educate the next generation of engineers and provide a multi-skilled workforce that is essential to the delivery of HS2.

NCHSR corporate board chair Terry Morgan said: “it will be a catalyst for growth that will bring new investment into the area and provide highly skilled jobs for local people.”

The development site has a long history of industrial activity and includes a former infilled canal arm basin. Intrusive investigations encountered heavy metal contamination together with asbestos impacted soils.

The scope of works were designed to provide Willmott Dixon with a clean, development ready platform and include bulk earthworks, management of asbestos impacted arisings, soil treatment, stabilisation and the construction of a piling mat.

An open day was organised to mark the first day of construction works and was featured recently on ITV news.
