Poor disposal practices, demolition and other anthropogenic processes have resulted in asbestos often being present in the ground. The only current guidance available for UK projects is CIRIA report C733 ‘Asbestos in soil and made ground: a guide to understanding and managing risk’ published in March 2014. Although the report is relevant to most construction professionals, it was not prepared for site operatives.
It is recognised within the industry that more should be done to ensure site staff are made aware of their liability and responsibilities associated with asbestos. The Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) are currently preparing a new site guide for asbestos in soil and have appointed Dunton, as market leaders, to their project steering group. The new guidance is due to be published by Spring 2015.
At Dunton Environmental we understand the complexities of current UK asbestos guidance and can assist you through the investigation, assessment and management of asbestos contaminated soils. Our aim is to help you find significant cost and programme savings whilst achieving construction best practice.
